Esma, originally from a small ethnic Georgian village in the Black Sea region of Turkey, immigrated to the United States at nineteen, settling in St. Louis, Missouri. Currently in her third year of law school as a Public Interest Public Service Scholar at American University, Esma’s journey is characterized by her commitment to community service. Before law school, she actively contributed to her St. Louis community as a community builder/organizer and public health researcher. Esma enjoys lunch breaks at the community garden, exploring community-centered service and advocacy tools, engaging with organizations focused on community development, and collecting stories that celebrate sisterhood and womanhood.
